About Anwar Khan

I was born and raised in Agra, in the shadow of the Taj Mahal. The monument has shaped my city, my livelihood, and my understanding of history for my entire life. I have been guiding full-time for 15 years — not as a side business, but as the only thing I do. Every working day begins and ends at the same sites I have guided since I was in my twenties.

What I offer tourists is not a tour. It is context. The Taj Mahal is more than white marble — it is a monument built by a man who lost his wife after the birth of their fourteenth child. Agra Fort is not just a fortress — it is the prison where Shah Jahan spent his final years, looking across the river at what he had built for her. Without that context, you are walking around an expensive shell.

I guide privately. No groups. No commission-based shopping stops. No rushed schedules. Every client I accept gets my undivided attention for the full day.

★★★★★

“Anwar completely transformed how we experienced the Taj Mahal. We arrived before sunrise and had the reflecting pool almost to ourselves. His knowledge of Mughal history made everything come alive. We went back to our hotel in tears — in a good way.”

“We had used group tours in other countries and always felt rushed. Anwar showed us there's another way. Three days with him across Delhi, Agra and Jaipur — every meal, every monument, every interaction felt thoughtful and personal.”

“I was nervous about India as a solo female traveller. Anwar made me feel completely safe and taken care of from the first message on WhatsApp to the last goodbye at Agra station. Best decision I made on this trip.”

“Honest, knowledgeable, patient. He never rushed us. At the Taj Mahal he waited until the light was exactly right before taking our photos. Memories for life.”

Credentials & Expertise

Local knowledge no outsider has

I live 500 metres from the Taj Mahal. I know the ticket queue lengths at 6am versus 9am. I know which entrance is fastest on a Friday (closed day — so none: we reschedule). I know where the marble turns pink at sunrise and where it turns gold at dusk.

15 years of full-time guiding

Not a part-time driver who 'also guides'. Not a hotel-recommended commission agent. Full-time professional guide for 15 years — this is my only profession and I have built my reputation on it.

No commission, no shopping stops

Many Agra guides earn more from shop commissions than from client fees. I do not take commissions. Any shopping recommendation I make is genuine — I eat at those restaurants and I trust those craftsmen.

English spoken to a high standard

Clients from the UK, US, Australia, Canada and across Europe. Historical explanations, architectural terminology, storytelling — all in fluent English. Not translated from Hindi: actually understood.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a private guide in Agra cost?▼
From £120 for a half-day Taj Mahal tour, or £180 for a full day (Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Mehtab Bagh). Full Golden Triangle tours from £3,860 per person for 7 days. All prices include entry tickets, private vehicle, and guide fees.
Is it worth hiring a private guide at the Taj Mahal?▼
Yes. A private guide handles ticket queues, explains the Mughal history in depth, knows the best photography spots at each time of day, and ensures you arrive at opening. Most visitors without a guide miss significant parts of the complex and leave without understanding what they looked at.
What is the best private tour guide in Agra?▼
Anwar Khan has 55+ consecutive five-star reviews on TripAdvisor — the highest-reviewed private guide operating from Agra. He is an Agra native who has lived in Tajganj, 500 metres from the Taj Mahal, his entire life and has been guiding full-time for 15 years.
Can I book a private guide just for the Taj Mahal?▼
Yes. Half-day Taj Mahal only tours are available from £120. WhatsApp +91 93191 14017 for availability.
Do you guide tours from Australia, the US and Canada?▼
Yes. Clients from Australia, the US, Canada, and the UK make up the majority of guests. Contact via WhatsApp or email regardless of timezone — responses within 24 hours.
